Overview

The study programme aims at the development of special knowledge, skills, and competences necessary in language service provision, such as multimodal text translation, proofreading and editing, as well as machine translation output post-editing, translation project management and quality control.
Students are encouraged to raise their terminological awareness within the scope of the selected scientific discipline and beyond it. Through a comprehensive overview of genres, techniques and resources of writing, students develop their text production skills.
The study programme promotes the development of the technological savviness of the students, contributing to shaping their language service provider profile.

Programme structure

The study process is organised through lectures, workshops, seminars, practical classes at computer labs (simultaneous translation equipment, machine translation, computer-assisted translation tools), as well as internships.
Students have the possibility to master multimodal study courses: Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and study courses that include conventional lectures, pre-recorded video lectures and interactive technology-based tasks.

Students can undertake internships at Latvian or foreign language service provision establishments, translation agencies, state and private organisations, higher education institutions, publishing houses, media outlets etc.

Career opportunities

The graduates demonstrate a set of skills and competences, including linguistic competence in at least two working languages, a selected STEM+ field competence, language service provision related abilities, communication skills, socio-cultural skills, and digital skills.

The graduates master the opportunities offered by computer-assisted translation and machine translation tools, work within language technology related projects, provide conference interpreting and various localization services. Such a diverse skillset opens a wide range of careers opportunities for the graduates of the study programme: LSP translator, interpreter, audio-visual translator, digital text creator, proof-reader and editor, language analyst, etc.
