Overview

Safety and engineering ethics are issues that are becoming increasingly important in the world. Knowledge of mechanics helps to analyze and prevent damage and failures. In turn, innovative solutions and diagnostic methods help to extend the use of engineering products without writing them off at the first (possibly unfounded) suspicion of a defect. Thus, damage and failure situations within this school will be considered from two perspectives: firstly, from a safety point of view and, secondly, from an environmental point of view.
The Summer School Fracture Structures: Material Stress Resistance is an interactive, practical approach-based course that will keep an in-depth focus on material durability, their resistance to cracks, and empirically determine the effect of different coatings on the strength properties of materials. During the summer school, participants will have lectures and practical classes that will make it possible to compare the endurance of materials such as wood, cross-laminated timber (CLT), glued laminated timber (GLT), concrete, and metal. The main aim of the hands-on activities is to determine the strength of construction materials and to compare the obtained characteristics with other materials used.

The Summer School includes the industry field trips, so participants can have a chance to visit various facilities of the companies and will be able to acquire a unique chance to get an insight into the various materials’ manufacturing processes. Significantly, during the company field trips, there will be an opportunity for students to have thorough discussions with industry professionals.
